v. 2.0.0 (major)

Lore Frog

Lore Frog

Today's the day, everyone! We're launching v2.0 and rebranding to Lore Frog. Let's get into the news, and what's actually changing:

Universes

Currently, all Records live inside a Campaign. But that's annoying when you start a new Campaign and want to set it in the same world you've been building. So we are introducing a top-level wrapper called a Universe, which will contain Campaigns and Records (Players, Npcs, Locations, Creations, History). Sessions and Arcs still live inside Campaigns, but now you have a lot more space to build your world across multiple stories.

New Branding

Even from the start, the .app domain tld didn't feel discoverable enough, and the name Dungeon Mastery also felt too tied to D&D, when we want to be system-agnostic. So, thinking of lore, and thinking of our love for quirky things, we came up with Lore Frog, and we feel it's a lot more memorable. Sorry if you were attached to the previous, but the only constant in the swamp is change.

Translations

We hope this is a big one. Thanks to community support, we can now offer the app in Spanish, Russian, Polish, and German, in addition to English. It's getting easier to translate these days, so if your native language isn't offered, just reach out on our Discord and we can see about adding it in. (and if you find our translations of your language aren't great, please do reach out and save us from the embarrassment)

Layout

We moved a few things around, knocking the sidebar further to the left to make room for future plans. The Campaign Details screen was decluttered a bit to hopefully make it more readable.

We also changed how Arcs work. Instead of being containers for Sessions (which could lead to weird sorting behaviour since Sessions are sorted by date), they are now just "markers" that can be dragged between sessions. (one regression for the time being is that Sessions have to be sorted by Oldest First, but we hope to restore the reverse of that soon).

Quality of Life

We added a few things to improve how you do things within the app. These include:

  • A link to add a sub-location/sub-creation/sub-history/sub-group from the Record Details modal, with the parent pre-selected.
  • Custom urls/slugs for Universes/Campaigns/Records. Universes must be unique across the app, campaigns must be unique per-universe, and records must be unique per collection-type.
  • Private Notes were removed (we have plans for later). Instead, there is a new button in the notes-editor that will mark any selected text as secret. You can see/edit it, but anyone else cannot. (Note, during any migrations, private notes are merged into the regular notes and marked as secret)
  • Deletion of Campaigns (and Universes) is possible now.
  • Players get a new field to let you choose which Campaign(s) they play in. They are greyed out but still present if they aren't a part of the current Campaign
  • Better group selection, including type-to-filter

Groundwork

Lastly, we made a lot of behind the scenes changes to empower the next phase of our plans. For example, there is now a distinction between Org, User, and Billing, because we plan to support professional GM companies in the future. The private notes field was removed because we want room in the UI for player notes. We have plans for prebuilt Universe templates, macros for the notes toolbar, and yes, inevitably, AI features.

---

There's a lot more coming, and it means so much to us (to me), that you've been part of the journey so far. What should you do next as an existing user?

  1. Login to https://dungeonmastery.app/
  2. follow the migration steps (you can delay it if you need, but only until January)
  3. Head over to https://app.lorefrog.com/ once the migration is done.
  4. Login with your same email. You'll need to reset your password if you prefer that flow.

That's it! I hope you like the changes, and are as excited about the future as I am!
